Home after her trip to Tamworth Country Music Festival and the

CMAA Senior Academy of Country Music.

Fresh from the 2018 Tamworth Country Music Festival, Mikayla J kicked off her time in Tamworth with a performance alongside the CMAA Academy Graduates at the Opening Concert in Bicentennial Park in front of a crowd of over 7000.

Following up a huge performance in the park, with a set at the Tamworth Emerging Artists Showcase, saw Mikayla share songs from her debut EP ‘ When Lightning Strikes’ with Country Music fans from all over Australia. The festival also saw her share the stage with Country legends, The Bushwackers and Warren H Williams.

Highlighting her time in Tamworth by performing alongside award winning duo O’Shea at the Golden Guitar Awards, the Academy Choir emerged from the audience to sing the self belief anthem, “I Will Not Give Up”.

Recent graduate of the prestigious ‘Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA)’ Senior Academy of Country Music, Mikayla J has returned home from Tamworth with a spring in her step and a new determination to take on a career in the music industry. The 2 week intensive course focusing on songwriting, performance and music business supplied Mikayla and 27 other musicians with priceless information on their chosen paths.

Mentored by her group leader Kevin Bennett, Mikayla found inspiration in industry talks with Amber Lawrence, Adam Brand and Kasey Chambers.

Taking memories from her childhood and recent outback travels, Mikayla sat down with Golden Guitar winning country artist Fanny Lumsden to write the song, “Bus to Birdsville”.

Receiving a Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Grant from the Gladstone Regional Council enabled Mikayla to attend the Academy, a goal of hers from a young age. “To be able to learn from the best in the business, in a supportive environment where you are surrounded by people with the same goal, is an amazing opportunity,”

Mikayla said of her time at the Academy. Incredibly thankful for her hometown support, she can’t wait to give back and share her newfound knowledge with members of her community.
